Year 2 is an important year in many ways. It is the time when we see our pupils move on from say, chunking words together when reading, to reading the syllables by themselves. This is where all the hard work the pupils have put into their foundations are in place, ready for the start of their Prep years. For most, this would mean having finished our reading scheme, being confident of their number facts, to have learnt a wide range of spellings, understanding basic punctuation and being able to write up their own lesson notes ready for their next academic year. What makes our year groups work is co-operation not competition within the classroom.
