“I like to create a happy environment. If the children are happy, they work well and learn more!” Miss Kelly – Reception Teacher.
In Reception we believe that our approach to learning has enhanced our pupils’ achievements without them feeling any great jump from Nursery. By the end of the school year all our pupils are exceeding their Early Learning Goals (ELG).
We use continuous provisions for self-learning and have many activities for the children to choose from. With our class sizes being so small, children also benefit from one-to-one attention where we can focus on each one’s needs. All our Reception children will be on the Peter and Jane reading scheme by the time they reach Year 1.
Each year, we hold a Pyjama Day, a day to learn about time.
It’s a great day, which includes a chance to mix with the Nursery and Year 1 pupils. This helps with the transition into Pre Prep. All the pupils get to know each other.
One new approach to the Reception Year has implemented discussing with the children what subject they would like to learn about. Then within the subsequent term the children are eager and engaged in learning this subject.
Our Reception pupils are all taught the Phonics Program alongside other learning techniques. They are constantly active and engaged in learning, often driven by their own inquisitive natures and their ability to thrive using their own imaginations.
“Our biggest joy is watching pupils who want to work and learn!” Miss Kelly – Reception Teacher
